The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, Thursday, assured that delays and other hindrances militating the justice system would be over after the validation of the National Minimum Standards Documents 2024 on the implementation of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act 2015.
The minister gave the assurance while giving a speech in Abuja at the close of a 3-day stakeholders’ workshop on National Minimum Standards for the implementation of ACJA.
“It is our quest to improve ACJA to address the issue of delays in trials that has hindered the sector,” he said.
While reiterating the ministry’s commitment in seeing to its proper implementation, Fagbemi, who was represented by Mr Wada Ahmed Wada said the ministry and its partners will continue to build the capacity of stakeholders in the sector.
In his speech, Professor Yemi Akinseye-George of the Centre for Socio Legal Studies (CSLS) restated the need for Nigeria’s court to be automated with common standards in order to enhance consistency, efficiency and accountability.
“With good case management, the new initiative will make evaluation easier,” he said.
On her part, the directo, ACJRD, FMJ, Mrs Leticia Ayoola-Daniels, said with dedicated efforts, FMJ and experts will help bring about a unified criminal justice system in the country.
