When a celebrity is under intense scrutiny, there is pressure to look their best at all times. This has always been the case for public figures. Kelly Clarkson has faced intense speculation about her recent weight loss, which she cleared up on her talk show. Sharon Osbourne recently admitted to using Ozempic, a weight loss drug, and not being pleased with the results.
The world of reality TV is no stranger to drama and that includes the physical appearance of its stars.
Stacey Silva (of 90 Day Fiancé fame) has undergone quite a transformation over the years. From her reality beginnings on Before the 90 Days, to her own show with her sister Darcey & Stacey, fans have watched Silva’s face change rapidly. However, like with Clarkson and Osbourne, Silva’s biggest change came in the form of weight loss.
Weight Loss Was A Major Factor In Stacey Silva’s Changing Face
When Stacey Silva and her sister and Darcey were first introduced to the public in the 2010s, they had a very different appearance than they do now. Silva was a natural brunette and had more natural facial features.
During this time, a video was posted by 360DigitalStudios which shared the sisters’ dreams of making it big on reality television.
Ultimately, Silva wasn’t the sister who would become a reality star first, it was Darcey. When Darcey made her debut on Before the 90 Days, Silva was present, despite not being the main focus. At the time, she maintained her brunette hair color and had a slim face shape.
When Silva introduced her own relationship with Florian Sukaj in B90 season three, fans started noticing her changing face. This is when Silva began using filters on her photos and bleached her hair blonde.
In 2020, Silva premiered her own show with her sister Darcey & Stacey.
- During the show, Silva’s face had become unrecognizable.
- Among the changes were full lips, a slim nose, and a pointed chin.
- She also had a sharp jawline, with her softer facial features being lost completely.
In 2024, Silva underwent a weight loss procedure which helped her lose 40 pounds. Silva underwent the Suture Sculpt endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty in 2023, according to BatashMedical. The procedure was done at the Batash Endoscopic Weight Loss Center. Darcey also underwent the procedure and the twins promoted their weight loss on social media.
The procedure is non-surgical and is performed by a gastroenterologist. During the procedure, sutures are placed strategically inside the patient’s body to make the stomach smaller and shorter.
Silva isn’t the only reality star who has experienced weight loss in front of their audience.
Ben Napier Decided To Lose Weight After An Embarrassing Incident During An Interview
In 2023, Home Town stars Ben Napier and his wife Erin spoke to OK! Magazine about his 95-pound weight loss.
“We’re all trying to be healthier and trying to live better and trying to live longer,” Napier told the outlet.
Napier revealed that he became serious about losing weightafter an embarrassing moment during an interview.
“I started just [because I knew] I needed to take some weight off. And then we did an interview… and my shirt wouldn’t stay buttoned and I was like, ‘Oh, that’s a bad look. That is a bad thing.’ I was already working [on my weight] and then that jumpstarted it,” he admitted.
The following January, Napier adopted a “new year, new me” mentality. After undergoing shoulder surgery, Napier’s doctor informed him he needed blood pressure medication. The reality star said this was further motivation for him to lose weight.
“I was like, ‘I’m too young.’ At the time I wasn’t even 40,” Napier said. “So I said, ‘Let me see if we can drop it by losing weight.'”
Erin spoke highly of her husband and revealed how proud she was of his progress.
“His blood pressure is perfect! It is the sexiest thing,” she said.
According to Erin, Napier changed his body through their home gym and a change in his eating habits.
“I like only eat ‘girl dinner,’ which is basically crackers for two meals a day. I just crave crackers and maybe a little cheese, charcuterie, a little fruit, maybe a crunchy carrot. Ben just basically adopted eating the way I was eating,” Erin explained. “He has one big meal. He eats a good, healthy, big lunch… Last night for supper he ate some dates. He’s obsessed with dates!”
She added, “I want him to live forever. That’s what I care about.”
Napier’s weight-loss journey was chronicled in Home Town. In a 2022 episode, he opened up about another factor in his decision to slim down.
“I’ve got two daughters, one on the way,” Napier said. “I am getting older. I’m trying to take a little bit better care of myself.”
Ben Napier is the founder of Scotsman Co. and co-owner of Laurel Mercantile Co.
Napier shares two daughters, Helen and Mae, with wife Erin.
“I’ve always worked out,” Napier said. “I can benchpress more than a lot of people, but i can’t do a pull-up.”
In the episode, Napier receives help from Erin’s brother Clark, who is a physical therapist.
“I need to start working out a little more intentionally. And so I’m using pull-ups as like a benchmark,” Napier said. “This is my new lifestyle. This is every day.”
Tammy Slaton’s Fans Expressed Their Thoughts On Dr. Eric Smith’s Impact On Her Transformation
In July 2022, 1000-Lb. Sisters star Tammy Slaton had bariatric surgery and lost a lot of weight. In a Reddit thread, viewers of the show chimed in on Slaton’s journey.
One viewer in particular believed Dr. Eric Smith, her bariatric surgeon, had quite an effect on Slaton’s progress.
“I love the moment when Dr Smith asks Tammy to walk down the hall and back with him,”
the person wrote
. “She complied, possibility due to the environment (and what seems to be Tammy’s girl crush on him) and inadvertently showed him that she was perfectly capable of walking those 75 steps. She already did a chunk of them in that walk. The only thing stopping her doing them was her, and Dr Smith proved it without a word.”
Smith shared similar sentiments when speaking to LEX 18 News in 2023 about his time with Slaton.
“It’s tough because you know what she’s capable of,” Smith said.
Dr. Eric Smith works as a bariatric surgeon in Georgetown, Kentucky.
One of the things Smith stressed when discussing Slaton was that he wouldn’t give up on her.
“You can’t scare people into their rock bottom,” Smith said. “You can’t push them into their rock bottom, but when they hit it, it’s our job to be there for them and support them.”
Smith also said those who are morbidly obese should be treated with respect, empathy, patience, and honesty. He said this is crucial, because you never know what they have been through or are currently going through.
“There’s a lot of hurt that Tammy has experienced through her life,” Smith said. “I think once we’re able to get Tammy to deal with some of her, say personal demons, then she’s more apt to be able to do what she needs to do to be successful.”
Slaton opened up to People in December 2023 about the milestones she has achieved since her surgery. Slaton is now down to an impressive 285 lbs.
“One of the big changes that I have gone through this past year is probably small to most people,” Slaton said. “But for me it was huge.”
“Just being able to walk without a walker or be pushed in a wheelchair, and no oxygen. I don’t even sleep with it at night anymore,” she continued. “Then it was being able to fit in a regular vehicle, front seat, and then the belt buckle, and not have to use an extender now. So I mean, just what seems minor to some people is giant for me.”
Slaton is nominated in the Reality Queen category at the upcoming American Reality Television Awards.
For Smith, he wanted Slaton to continue celebrating small victories, such as the time she proudly told him she could buckle her seat belt in the car. To him, these milestones are much more important than a number on the scale.
“I remember the first time I got a picture that she sent me of her riding the front seat in a car with a seat belt, things that we may take for granted,” Smith told People. “That was a huge accomplishment for her when she used to be coming to my office in the back of a minivan with the seats removed because that was the only way that they could transport her.”
“For Tammy, I told her don’t get so caught up in a number. Enjoy the ride getting there. I want her to enjoy what we call those non-scale victories, the ability to be more mobile by herself,” he continued. “I’m proud of her for those weight or number goals, but what I’m most proud about is the goals that she’s achieving of actually living a healthier and happier life.”
