Rapper and entertainment mogul 50 Cent is reportedly seeking to dismiss his defamation lawsuit against ex-girlfriend Daphne Joy, with whom he shares a 12-year-old son, Sire Jackson. The lawsuit, originally filed in May 2024, stemmed from an Instagram post made by Joy in which she accused 50 Cent, born Curtis Jackson, of raping and physically abusing her during their relationship. The legal battle now appears to be cooling off after several months of tension.
Joy’s post, which was shared in March 2024, contained serious allegations. “I am tired of upholding and protecting an image to our son that you have never even earned,” Joy wrote. “Let’s put the real focus on your true evil actions of raping me and physically abusing me. You are no longer my oppressor, and my God will handle you from this point on.”
These accusations came just days after a Homeland Security raid on the properties of music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs, as part of a federal sex and drug trafficking investigation. Joy had been romantically linked to Diddy in the past and was accused of being involved as a sex worker in a lawsuit filed by one of Diddy’s producers, Rodney “Lil Rod” Jones. This association led to further complications between 50 Cent and Joy, with 50 Cent trolling his ex on social media regarding the accusations.
In response to the serious claims made by Joy, 50 Cent filed for sole custody of their son, Sire, and pursued a defamation suit, seeking over $1 million in damages. However, in July 2024, Joy removed the accusatory post from her Instagram account, reportedly in an attempt to reconcile and move forward for the sake of their son.

TMZ reports that new legal documents filed by 50 Cent in September 2024 show the rapper requesting that the defamation lawsuit be dismissed without prejudice. This means he retains the option to refile the lawsuit in the future if necessary, although the dismissal marks a significant shift in his approach. The judge has yet to sign off on the request, but the dismissal is expected to be finalized soon.
The couple, who dated between 2011 and 2012, have had a rocky relationship, often spilling over into public feuds. Throughout the legal battle, Joy has maintained her stance, criticizing 50 Cent for trolling her online and claiming that he has been absent in their son’s life. “Play catch with your son. Play basketball. Teach him some fatherly things instead of trolling all day on IG,” she wrote in a scathing Instagram Story, accusing him of neglecting his duties as a father.
While the lawsuit seems to be heading toward a resolution, the public drama between 50 Cent and Daphne Joy has shed light on the complicated nature of their relationship. As the legal dust settles, the focus now appears to be shifting toward their shared responsibilities as co-parents.
