Paula Badosa was left stunned after Stefanos Tsitsipas threw his racket angrily during the first-round mixed doubles match at the 2024 US Open. The Greek star crashed out of the US Open singles after losing to Thomas Kokkinakisin 7-6(5), 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 in the first round. The loss meant that Tsitsipas failed to reach the semifinals of any Grand Slam event in a season for the first since 2018.
On the other hand, Badosa has been enjoying her great form at the US Open following her semifinal reach at the Cincinnati Open. The Spaniard saved a match point en route to beating Elena Gabriela Ruse 4-6, 6-1, 7-6(8) to reach the fourth round.
Tsitsipas and Badosa also decided to take part in mixed doubles in New York this year. They failed to make their mark in their highly anticipated doubles match against Santiago Gonzalez and Giuliana Olmos.
The couple, who won the Mixed Madness event during the US Open fan week to take home a whopping $250,00 prize money, failed to replicate the same in their first-round mixed doubles match, losing 7-6(3), 6-4. The defeat ended Tsitsipas’ hopes of winning anything at the US Open.
The highlight of their match was Tsitsipas angrily throwing his racket after the chair umpire deemed that a shot of his pitched outside of the lines. It not only caused fans to stop and take notice but also stunned Badosa, who was not too far from him when he showed his emotions.

Stefanos Tsitsipas admits he lacks the hunger he had when he was younger after early exit at 2024 US Open
Stefanos Tsitsipas recently admitted that he lacks the same hunger and drive he had when he was younger following his first-round exit in the men’s singles. The Greek star surprisingly lost to Thomas Kokkinakisin in the first round at the 2024 US Open.
I’m nothing compared to the player I was before. I remember myself playing when I was younger, playing with adrenaline on the court, feeling like my life depends on the match. And these things, I feel like they have faded off, and let’s say my level of consistency hasn’t been as big.Stefanos Tsitsipas said (via USA Today)
The 26-year-old’s best results this year are a title-winning run at the Monte Carlo Masters and a runner-up finish at the Barcelona Open. The Greek star, who was once the World No. 3 and had finished as runner-up at two Grand Slams, has failed to make his mark for the most part this season.
Tsitsipas currently finds himself at No. 11 in the ATP rankings and has lost 16 of his 52 matches this year. Having recently ended his coaching relationship with his father Apostolos Tsitsipas after an early exit at the Canadian Open, he will be hoping to find some form in the final months of the season.
