Kola Bokinni is getting his adventure on this summer as he appears as a contestant on Celebrity Race Across the World. Kola is taking part in the show alongside his cousin, Mary Ellen Moriarty. Four famous faces and their partners are going head to head in the BBC show, kicking off their travels in Belém, Northern Brazil.
During Celebrity Race Across the World series 2, the BBC One stars have to venture through five checkpoints. All the modern amenities are left behind as the duos have to survive without luxury transport, smartphones, or bank cards during the experience. They have to rely on their social skills and go back to basics when it comes to survival.
Meet Celebrity Race Across the World’s Kola Bokinni
Celebrity Race Across the World series 2 features Jeff Brazier and his son, Freddy, Kelly Brook and her husband, Jeremy, and Radio 2 host Scott Mills and his husband, Sam.
Kola and his cousin, Mary, are also taking part in the BBC competition.
He’s an actor best known for appearing in Emmy and SAG Award winning Apple TV+ series Ted Lasso. Kola plays the role of Isaac McAdoo. He’s been appearing in Ted Lasso since 2020.
Fans may also recognize Kola from his role as Leyton in Top Boy.
He starred in the hit Netflix show five years ago, per IMDb.
Kola’s Netflix fame didn’t stop there as he also starred in Black Mirror in 2016, playing Lennard.
The Celebrity Race Across the World star’s acting career spans a decade. His first role saw him playing Robert in a short film called Ackee & Saltfish.
Kola’s cousin saw a different side to him
While Peckham-born Kola is an actor, his cousin, Mary, is a student.
Speaking in an interview with Radio Times, she explained she saw a different side to her cousin during the BBC experience.
She said: “I found that, believe it or not, Kola is shy… He was so timid when it came to talking to strangers. Unless, of course, they recognized him from Ted Lasso.”
The two clearly get along well as Kola tells the outlet how he could: “…spend five weeks with my little cousin without us killing each other.”
Race Across The World sees the two embark on an epic adventure of a lifetime. Mary writes in her Instagram bio: “Life is a daring adventure or nothing at all.”
