There seems to be an infinite number of reality TV shows nowadays. There are dating reality shows like The Bachelor and Love Island, competition reality shows like Survivor and RuPaul’s Drag Race, and bizarre reality shows like Married At First Sight and Toddler and Tiaras.

All of these shows have one thing in common: they have all surpassed one season. In fact, Survivor is nearing 50 seasons! That means, fans love watching these types of reality TV shows and will continue to keep watching. However, not every reality TV show has found the same love. Some have tried to replicate some of the most popular reality shows out there, only to end up being complete disasters.

8 The Hasselhoffs

Aired On A&E

With the success of reality TV shows that showcased families, like Keeping Up With the Kardashians, The Osbournes, and Jon & Kate Plus 8, actor David Hasselhoff believed people would be interested in his family, too.

In 2010, the A&E network aired The Hasselhoffs, a show that featured the day-to-day life of the Baywatch actor and his two daughters, Taylor and Hayley Hasselhoff, who have dreams of making it in Hollywood.

According to CBS News, the show’s premiere episode did poorly and was watched by 718,000 people. The second episode did even worse, with only 505,000 viewers. The reality show wasn’t even given a full season and was removed from the network after the second episode.

7 Flip It Forward

Would Have Aired On HGTV

HGTV’s Flip Or Flop, starring exes Tarek El Moussa and Christina Hall, was a huge success for the network, so why not create another series like it, but call it Flip It Forward? Starring twin brothers and home renovation experts Jason and David Benham, the premise for the show was to flip homes for families in need.

The show sounded like a wonderful idea, but it didn’t even get to air on the network. According to ABC News, it was axed by HGTV over controversial statements made by David that included his views on abortion and gay rights.

The Benham’s shared that they had nearly finished the first episode before they got the call that they were canceled.

6 I Wanna Marry Harry

Aired On Fox

In 2014, Fox premiered I Wanna Marry Harry, a dating reality show resembling The Bachelor that had 12 American women vying for, Prince Harry?

Although the women definitely knew this was just some joe-schmo who looked very similar to the Brit, it was later revealed that producers went to great lengths to brainwash the women into thinking he was the real deal.

In fact, Kimberly Birch, who won in the end, told Splinter that there was a therapist on set for the women who doubted the situation. In addition, when they were sleeping, the production crew would stand outside their door and pretend to whisper things to make it sound as though they were really with Prince Harry.

“They’d whisper, You have to get him back to Buckingham Palace. The Royal Family is upset. They’re not happy about the show.'”

This was an awful concept, and I Wanna Marry Harry didn’t surpass four episodes.

5 Buying Naked

It’s no surprise that TLC would pick up a show in which potential home buyers tour homes completely in the nude. In Buying Naked, customers met with expert real estate agent Jackie Youngblood, who sold homes in the Pasco County, Florida, neighborhood, which is known for its nudist communities.

Airing in 2013, the show only lasted for one season with 10 episodes. Viewers were uninterested in watching naked people look at walk-in closets they’d never use. But, it was extremely clever how producers used certain objects, including vases, folders, and even home decor, to cover these nudists for the camera as they toured a home.

4 Bridalplasty

Aired On E!

In 2010, Bridalplasty aired on the E! Network and it was extremely controversial. Although reality TV shows about makeovers are nothing new, this one took it to the extreme because of the way women competed with one another to win plastic surgery procedures.

The show took 12 women who competed to win both their dream wedding and their dream plastic surgery before the big day. The winner of each week’s challenge would be awarded with the surgery they desired. The show was hosted by Shanna Moakler and Real Housewives Dr. Terry Dubrow.

The show was canceled after one season. As the season progressed, viewership dwindled because the premise of the show embraced plastic surgery, which is totally not okay.

3 Breaking Boston

Breaking Boston aired on A&E in 2014 and was produced by Boston-native Mark Wahlberg. The show focused around four women who wanted to better their lives after making questionable decisions. The show mirrored the A-list actor’s life who struggled as a teen and dropped out of high school.

As Variety noted, the network pulled the plug on the reality show after a week due to poor viewership. The series wasn’t all that awful, but it had to keep up with similar shows like VH1’s Mob Wives and Keeping Up With the Kardashians, which were reality TV hits.

2 Mr. Personality

Aired On Fox

The Fox network took dating shows to another level when they introduced Mr. Personality in 2003. Similar to The Bachelor, a group of 20 men sought out the attention of one woman, but in a twist, all the faces of the men were covered in masks. It was also oddly hosted by Monica Lewinsky.

The idea was that the woman would choose a man based on his personality and not just looks. CBS News reported that the premiere was a hit as 12 million people tuned in. However, TV Guide noted that having it air right after American Idol, gave it a slight boost in viewership. It could not have done that well as it only aired for that one season.

1 Skating With The Stars

As if competing on Dancing With the Stars wasn’t challenging enough for celebrities with two left feet, ABC decided to amp it up with Skating With the Stars, a spinoff that featured celebs on the ice.

The one season that aired in 2010 featured well-known stars, including Mötley Crüe singer Vince Neil and Real Housewives’ Bethenny Frankel. The judges consisted of professional figure skaters Johnny Weir and Dick Button, and choreographer Laurieann Gibson. Ultimately, actress Rebecca Budig won the reality competition show.

However, the show was a complete fail, and it was removed from the network after one season.
