Taskforce arrests notorious cultists in Edo pre-dawn raid 

The Edo State Special Task Force on Anti-Cultism, Thursday paraded 11 suspects arrested for cultism in response to increasing cult related killings.

The taskforce includes personnel of Army, Department of State Services (DSS), Correctional Service, police, NDLEA, Justice and three ministries in the state.

The Commissioner for Information and Communication, Mr. Chris Nehikhare, addressed journalists on behalf of other members.

Nehikhare stated that five of the suspects were apprehended in a pre-dawn raid between 0320 and 0500 hours, noting that the gang includes “high-ranking leaders and a butcher.”

He added: “Acting on a tip-off, the team stormed a hotel in Upper Sakponba where cult members were holding a meeting. Two suspects were apprehended on the spot.

“The crackdown continued on the 13th of August 2024, when the operatives, leveraging critical intelligence, arrested a key cult leader in the Ekosodin axis of Ovia North East Local Government Area.”
