When Survivor: Gabon aired, the show’s dedicated fans were introduced to Corinne Kaplan and Jessica “Sugar” Kiper. After the season finished, most fans linked Corinne and “Sugar” together in their minds.

Even though many Survivor fans associate “Sugar” and Corinne, fans perceived them very differently. The fascinating reason that Corinne and “Sugar” have always been associated is because of a brutal scene that took place between them.

During the EW interview, Corinne spoke about what happened during Survivor: Gabon’s reunion. Since the footage of the controversial scene had just premiered for the first time, the audience booed Corinne.

Despite the backlash, Corinne didn’t back down at all. While talking to EW, Corinne revealed that her father, who was in the studio audience, pleaded with her to apologize. Despite that, Corinne completely rejected her father’s pleas.

“At the live reunion, they cut to commercial break. My father stood up and frantically mouthed to me, ‘Just say you’re sorry!’ At that point, I had already been booed and my parents were kind of panicking. I crossed my arms and yelled back, ‘Absolutely not!'”

Ultimately, it seems like Corinne’s refusal to apologize worked out for her. After all, Corinne was brought back to compete in Survivor a second time during a season with a Fans vs. Favorites theme.

Corinne also got to compete in a season of The Amazing Race. During that season, Corinne was partnered with Eliza Orlins, another former Survivor player who also angered some fans of Jeff Probst’s show.

While talking to the outlet, Corinne explained that people were still demanding that she apologize for her comments. Corinne then went on to definitively state how she felt about the idea of apologizing to “Sugar”.

“I still get DMs almost every day from people who hate me and demand I apologize. And so, I would like to address them in the following statement: I regret nothing.”

For anyone who doesn’t recall what Corinne said to “Sugar”, it may seem ridiculous that she upset so many people. However, Corinne’s comments were so brutal that it makes sense that people still have strong emotions about her speech.

Not only did Corinne brutally insult the person that “Sugar” was at the time, she also brought up her tribemates’ departed father.

“Sugar, you are an unemployed, uneducated leech on society, and the only thing I would vote to give you is a handful of antidepressants so that no one else has to be subjected to your constant crying anymore. And maybe if you got some, then it would seem a little more sincere when you are crying about your dead father. You don’t deserve the million.”

While talking to EW, “Sugar” told the outlet that Corinne’s infamous speech about her was stupid. As “Sugar” explained, she believed that Corinne didn’t understand her, which is what made her comments wrong.

“Corinne’s whole final speech was dumb to me, because she had a false sense of who I was. Not that it would make her dislike me LESS knowing.”

“Sugar” then went on to comment on the type of person she thought Corinne was. “Jealous mean girls are pretty malicious and you can’t fix them if they like themselves that way. She couldn’t stand losing to someone she thought wasn’t as good as her.​​​​​​​”

During the same EW interview, “Sugar” was asked if she regretted playing Survivor. While most people who get asked that question say no, “Sugar” admitted that she often regretted playing Survivor.

“Every other day. Yeah! Definitely. That’s life though. You can’t shoulda, coulda, woulda. This the reality I chose, so I try and not hate it or love it.”

While “Sugar” didn’t state that Corinne’s speech played any role in her sometimes regretting playing Survivor, that certainly couldn’t have been a highlight for her. On the bright side, “Sugar” also told EW that she appreciates some of the people she met because of Survivor.
