The Tshwane metro recently conducted a court-ordered audit of Farm 599 JR in Danville, west of Pretoria, a property they say, is being illegally occupied.
The Gauteng Division of the High Court ordered the metro to conduct the audit on August 5 and report back on the specifics of the structures erected.
The metro said that the audit report will be completed by the end of the week.
“The court has ordered the city to undertake this inspection and identify which of these structures are occupied, which are complete and which of these are incomplete,” said Thabiso Hlongwane, the divisional head of Group Property.
The audit was carried out with the assistance of the TMPD, the Department of Human Settlements as well as the Economic Development and Social Planning Department.
The metro had to issue a statement before the audit on August 2 after a voice message had been circulating on various social media platforms encouraging residents to attend the audit physically at their stands while the audit takes place.
The metro dismissed the message as “devoid of truth” in a statement from its media team and urged residents not to follow the instruction.
The metro indicated that it took ownership of the land on May 15 of this year and all structures erected before then were audited. The metro did not report any disturbance on the day of the audit.
When complete, the report will indicate to the court which structures are to be demolished, if any.
