Joe Biden Roasting Seth Meyers Sparked Conspiracy Theories About His Senility After His Viral Debate With Donald Trump

Highlights

  • Biden faced scrutiny over memory issues after meme debate with Trump, sparking health concerns.
  • Fans suspected media cover-up of Biden’s mental state after scripted Late Night appearance.
  • Biden’s witty TV cameos contrasted with age concerns, with some questioning authenticity.

In June, Joe Biden and Donald Trump had their “meme debate”, which put focus on the former’s long-suspected senility. Before the viral moment, special counsel Robert Hur reported that Biden’s memory was “hazy” and “significantly limited”. It led to a a public health showdown between the Democrat and the convicted real estate magnate. Biden even said he’d fight Trump in the back of a gym.

But after the disastrous presidential debate, the President’s February appearance on Late Nightwith Seth Meyers sparked conspiracy theories that the media “covered” his real mental condition. While Biden sharply addressed his age and wittily roasted both Meyers and Trump, fans were still convinced it was scripted to squash valid concerns about his age. Here’s why.

Stephen Colbert Finally Returned And His Joe Biden Slip-Up Had Fans On Their Feet

Stephen Colbert finally returned, and his thoughts on Joe Biden did not disappoint Late Show fans.

During his second visit on Late Night, Biden impressed fans with his humorous takes on conspiracy theories about him. One of which was that he was “working in cahoots” with Taylor Swift. Meyers then showed a photo the President had posted of himself with laser beam eyes A.K.A. the “Dark Brandon” meme after the Kansas City Chiefs won the Super Bowl—where Swift’s boyfriend, Travis Kelce famously gave her the ick during his celebration chant.

“Just like we drew it up, @Chiefs,” Biden wrote alongside the Instagram photo. The host then asked, “Can you confirm or deny that there is an active conspiracy between you and Miss Swift?” to which the guest jokingly replied, while he had his sunglasses on, “Where are you getting this information? It’s classified. That’s classified information.”

Biden said, however, that Swift “did endorse” him back in 2020. At that time, fans were optimistic about the 46th POTUS’ now-canceled presidential run. “I love how he decided to lean into the ‘conspiracy’ jokes, it takes away its credibility even more,” a fan commented. “Joe is quietly fixing America, people just don’t want to admit it. He’s doing great.”

Unfortunately, after his Trump debate, fans returned to the comment section of the above clip. This time, to slam Biden’s “fake” keenness. Someone wrote: “Wow, just 4 months ago he could do this. He declined fast, probably dying. Rip joe.” But others had more serious theories about the media “covering” for Biden. “People, watch Biden at 3:20. This is so staged and super obvious,” one explained.

They continued: “As soon as Seth gets the Dark Brandon photo, watch Biden reach into his pocket for his glasses. This was probably rehearsed prior to the show to make Biden seem witty and its not fooling anyone.”

One even noted that Meyers and his other guest, Amy Poehler, were “talking to him like a child or a person who’s so old they’re about to die.” In another footage from the interview, where Biden spoke about his 2024 agenda, a netizen asked, Is anybody else watching this after the debate and wondering why mainstream media went so far out of their way to cover for him?”

As soon as Biden sat down after his introduction, he asked Meyers, “Why haven’t you invited me sooner?” He was referring to the gap between his first appearance on the show in 2014. The host said, “You were a busy guy.” And in an attempt to get away with it, he quipped, “Did you think when you were here in 2014, this show would last 10 years” But instead of getting a touching remark, Biden just duh-ingly said, “No.”

During Biden’s first visit to the show, he was also accompanied by Poehler with whom he worked on his Parks and Recreation cameo. One of his scenes with Leslie Knope (Poehler’s character) even went viral when he was elected president in 2020. As it turned out, the politician agreed to appear on the series because he’s a huge fan.

“His staff really loves the show, and he apparently had watched the show with his family and his family liked it,”
executive producer Michael Schur told
EW

. ”

Schur even shared that the “the hardest part” about filming with Biden “was keeping it secret for so long because there’s all these FEC rules and equal-time rules.” Apparently, they “couldn’t air it before the election because it was the equivalent of a campaign contribution to advertise for one candidate.”

The former vice president also had praises for Leslie Knope, who idolizes him on the sitcom. “My whole family loves Parks and Recreation and I had a great time filming that scene,” Biden told The New York Times in 2012. “It was a real honor that in my sitcom debut I got to meet someone like Leslie Knope, who believes so deeply in public service.”

He continued: She’s an example for men and women across the country that there’s no higher calling than helping other people. On a personal note, I’ll never figure out how Leslie Knope got my home phone number, but that really just shows how committed she is.”

Here are Joe Biden’s three iconic TV cameos:

  1. Parks and Recreation – “Halloween Surprise” – season 5, episode 5 (2012)
  2. Law & Order: SVU – “Making a Rapist” – season 18, episode 2 (2016)
  3. Veep – parody video screened at the 2014 White House Correspondents’ Dinner

During his second Late Night visit, Biden also got to address concerns about his age following Hur’s classified report about his “poor” memory. Meyers asked, “According to recent polling, this is a real concern for American voters. How do you address that concern, going forward as you come up to the 2024 election?” Before giving out a serious answer, the guest threw shade at his then-competition, Trump:

“Well, a couple things. Number one, you got to take a look at the other guy. He’s about as old as I am, but he can’t even remember his wife’s name.”

The former senator then said, “It’s about how old your ideas are.” But he couldn’t resist hitting back at The Apprentice host. “Look, I mean, this is a guy who wants to take us back,” Biden stated. “He wants to take us back on Roe v Wade. He wants to take us back on a whole range of issues that are, 50, 60 years, they’ve been solid American positions.” Before getting even cattier with Trump, Biden concluded:

“I think it’s about the future, and everything—every single thing we’ve done, I think we’ve gotten some good things done… And they told us we couldn’t get them done, because things were so divided. But I think everything we’ve gotten done, he’s just frontally stated he wants to do away with if he gets elected. And I really think his views on where to take America are older than… Anyway… I don’t want to get called.”

Fans think the interview didn’t age well (no pun intended). A conspiracy theorist suggested that Biden “was probably so drugged up on Alzheimer’s medications and amphetamines for this interview” and that “they must’ve made a mistake and lowered his dosages on the day of the debate.”

In a recent interview this August, following his exit from the presidential race, Biden continued to warn people against Trump winning the 2024 elections. “If Trump loses, I’m not confident at all,” he told CBS News. “[Trump] means what he says, we don’t take him seriously. He means it, all this stuff about ‘if we lose it will be a bloodbath.'”
