The NASCAR Cup series race at Richmond after the two weeks extended Olympics break was a dramatic to say the least. Richard Childers Racing’s Austin Dillon who came into the race as the P32 placed drive won the race by wrecking race leaders Joey Logano and Denny Hamlin on the final lap f the race, securing a spot in the playoffs.
23XI Racing Bubba Wallace was one of main drivers affected by the surprise win of Austin Dillon. It has reduced his chances of making it into the last-16 on points and his boss Denny Hamlin was also involved in the wreck to make matters worse. Hence, he didn’t hold back his criticism of the No:3 Chevy driver.
We just got to keep fighting and man, guess you could dump somebody and right-rear somebody and be okay. It’s funny how it works…In by three, got beat by the three. It was a chickenshit move.Bubba Wallace told NBC.
Though the win puts him a tough position, Bubba Wallace is coming out of the race with a good haul of points. His P4 finish has enabled him to secure the P16 place in the points table with 3 points lead of Ross Chastain. Still, if Dillon didn’t win the race, he could have come out on a better spot from Cook Out 400.
Tyler Reddick shares similar emotions as Bubba Wallace
Both Tyler Reddick and Wallace had the best view of any driver over what happened as they were racing inside the top-5 when the wreck happened. He was furious with how Dillon raced and wrecked the leaders for the win. Reddick is okay with the Logano wreck, as it’s understandable. But he isn’t okay with the right hooking of his boss Hamlin as it warrants a penalty.
Yeah, Joey (Logano) stole the words right from me. That’s exactly what that move is. Unbelievable. I understand the first one, I guess, on Joey, trying to win the race. I’ve been threatened to be suspended for right hooking people and they’ve always taken a pretty hard stand on that. I don’t know. Racing hard for the win is one thing. Just plainly right hooking somebody is another.Tyler Reddick said.
At the end of the day, despite the disappointment it was a really good day for 23XI Racing. Their boss and the drivers finished inside the top-5, and were in contention for the wins. With three more races left in the season they can use this to their advantage.
