Governorship debate: NEDG, BON reiterate collaborations with Edo NUJ

The Nigeria Election Debate Group (NEDG) has reiterated its commitment to collaborate with the Edo state Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) to host the 2024 Edo Governorship Debate.

NEDG said the combined efforts would ensure a well-organised, widely viewed debate that would be broadcast nationwide.

The group added that the debate would offer unparalleled exposure for the candidates and bring national prominence to Edo state.

The debate is slated for September 15, 2024, and scheduled to be held at the Edo NUJ Press Centre in Benin City.

This was contained in a press statement signed by the executive secretary of the Nigeria Election Debate Group, Mr. Eddie Emessiri, in Benin City.

Emessiri said NEDG, in partnership with the Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria (BON), is seeking Edo NUJ’s collaboration in hosting the 2024 Edo State Governorship Debate.

He noted that the exercise was part of their commitment to enhancing democratic engagement and providing the electorate with comprehensive information about candidates’ policies and programmes.

Emessiri expressed optimism that hosting a well-organised debate was crucial to deepen democratic values and good governance in the country.

“The event will offer the citizens of Edo state a valuable opportunity to assess the various candidates vying for the governorship position,” he said.
