Two Ondo state Magistrate’s Courts have found two men guilty for vandalising the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) sub-stations and stealing its cables.
The convicts, Ismaila Adebayo, and God Save, were accordingly convicted and sentenced to three years each in prison.
While the Ore 2 Magistrate Court in Ondo state jailed Ismaila Adebayo, for vandalising a BEDC 500 KVA distribution substation, God Save was sentenced by the Ile-Oluji Chief Magistrate’s Court on August 12.
Save was charged for vandalising the BEDC Jibokun substation in Ile-Oluji area of the state and subsequently handed the prison sentence by Chief Magistrate, Dr. Tope Aladejana.
This was contained in a statement issued in Benin City by the BEDC Head, Branding and Corporate Communications, Mrs. Evelyn Gbiwen.
The statement noted that Ore 2 Magistrate’s Court presided by
Chief Magistrate Fashaun, gave the judgement on Adebayo’s case following comprehensive evidence by the police prosecutor.
Gbiwen quoted the company’s Regional Head, Engr. Remi Faola, as expressing appreciation to the judiciary’s decisive efforts to combat infrastructure vandalism.
The statement read in part, “The judgement highlighted ongoing efforts to curb the disruption and damage caused by vandalism of essential infrastructure.
“BEDC management also reiterated their commitment to working closely with law enforcement agencies to safeguard their facilities and ensure that those who commit these crimes are held accountable.
“Our priority remains the protection of our infrastructure and the reliable delivery of electricity to our customers.”
