Navy hands over 2,880kg of cannabis to NDLEA

Operatives of Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Beecroft on Tuesday disclosed that its confiscated at total of 2,880kg canabis Sativa in the Elegushi area of Lekki in Lagos state

Speaking on the seizures during the handing over at the NNS Beecroft premises of Western Naval Command, Apapa, the Commander NNS Beecroft, Commodore Rafiu Taye Oladejo, stated that 72 bags by 40kg bags of Canabis Sativa was arrested on the 5th of June in the Elegushi area of the state.

He said that the arrest was made possible by a quick response team from the base and the deep blue asset of NIMASA

According to him, “when we got actionable intelligence, we quickly swung into action and deployed 3 boats, on getting to the location some criminals were discharging the canabis from 2 wooden boats and absconded thereby leaving the 72 bags of 40 KG of cannabis Sativa that was set to handed over to the NDLEA today.

“The arrest was made possible by the unrelenting of the base at gathering actionable intelligence and the maintenance of credible presence on the water ways of the country especially Lagos state under the tenet Operation Water Guard”

“No arrest was made, on sighting the patrol team the criminals abandoned the scene.

“The investigation is to be conduct and our preliminary investigation by some of the details has been given during this initial remarks and the full investigation will be conducted by the NDLEA after this handover” Oladejo said

The Commander also stated the items could have been brought from neighboring countries or some parts of Nigeria.
He noted judging from the experiences of the previous arrest some of them were brought from Benin Republic or countries bordering Nigeria.

He noted that the successful achievements was in line with the directives of the Chief Of the Naval Staff (CNS) Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogala,adding that that NN will not relent in its effort to pursue the criminals no matter where they hide.

“The essence is to make sure that the Nigeria maritime environment is rid of various crimes and not only the transportation of substances like canabis or other forms of crimes so that the place will be conducive and safe for other legitimate businesses to thrive” Commander stated
