Gameshow for masterminds invites award-winning artist and decorated Paralympian onboard

Christmas University Challenge kicked off its first episode of the season on Monday, December 18. The University Challenge Christmas 2023 contestants hail from all across the country. Round one of nine saw alumni of King’s College London and City, University of London go head-to-head.

Quizzing is every intellect’s favorite way to spend the festive season and what better quiz is there than University Challenge? Tune into BBC Two to see the brains of some of the top institutions put their knowledge to the test. The festive episodes are hosted by Amol Rajan who took over from Jeremy Paxman.

University Challenge Christmas 2023 contestants: Leeds

On Boxing Day, graduates of two more universities are put to the test on University Challenge.

Former students of Middlesex and Leeds University appear in episode 6 of the show which is set to conclude the first round of this year’s Christmas University Challenge.

Representing Leeds University are Claire Cashmore, Kunle Barker, Kenton Cool, and Mike Begon.

Cashmore is a swimmer and Paralympic Gold Medallist who won a gold medal at the Rio Paralympic Games in para-swimming. She also received an MBE in 2017. (@clairecashmore1)

Barker is a property expert, writer, and broadcaster. Leeds alum Cool is a climber and mountain guide, and Begon is a professor of Ecology at the University of Liverpool.

University Challenge Christmas 2023: Middlesex University

Going up against the Leeds University alumni are the former Middlesex University students.

Baroness Lola Young is a former actor and presenter. She’s now Chancellor of the University of Nottingham.

David Hepworth is a music journalist, author, and TV presenter. He founded magazines including Q and Empire.

Poet and artist Heather Phillipson is also on the Middlesex team. She was nominated for the Turner Prize last year and won the Next Generation Poet award in 2014. (@heatherphillipson)

Dan Skinner is a comic actor and writer known for Shooting Stars, Friday Night Dinner, House of Fools, and the Brian and Roger podcast.
