The Lyttelton Community, together with its policing forum, celebrated men and women in blue together with their security sector stakeholders by holding a Christmas lunch.

The Lyttelton Sector 4 policing cooked and prepared meals for all the police officers and security personnel on duty on Monday for Christmas.

According to the Sector’s communique, they managed to serve about 93 security officers and the South African Police service officer who were on duty at the Lyttelton police station.

“This was the LS4CPSF community’s way of showing our appreciation to those who sacrificed time with their families to ensure our safety.

We would also like to thank those community members who offered their time to feed these officers,” the communique read.

The sector said the program was made successful due to its partnership with the community and businesses such as Elardus Park Spar, Cookies & Cream Catering, NG Elarduspark, and many others that wished to remain anonymous.

The Lyttelton’s spokesperson, Captain Dave Miller, told Rekord that the community’s gesture took members of the station by surprise as they were not expecting such a treat.

“It’s highly appreciated by members to have received a meal on Christmas day, and It is a good thing that we are being appreciated by the community,” added Miller.

He further said members sacrificed their lives to make sure that the community they serve was kept well and safe.

In addition, Miller said the good deeds of the community demonstrated the good relationship between the police and the community it serves.

“This would also solidify the trust between members and the community going forward. We are extremely happy and honoured to serve the Lyttelton Community as the SAPS.”
