Three men arrested in Sinoville for possession of a stolen vehicle

Three suspects were arrested on Friday in Sinoville for being in possession of a stolen vehicle, signal jammer and suspected stolen bank cards.

The arrest was made after a local private security company received an alert from a licence plate recognition camera which linked a white Hyundai Accent to the commission of a crime in Hartbeespoort in Brits.

Sinoville police spokesperson Sergeant Gomolemo Modibane said the private security company’s staff went on a patrol along Sefako Makgatho Drive and spotted the car.

“The members quickly notified the Sinoville crime prevention unit and police, who responded quickly,” he said.

Modibane said the vehicle was stopped at the corner of Blyde Avenue and Vinko Street in Sinoville.

“Police and security personnel approached the vehicle to investigate and ordered the occupants to step out of the car,” said Modibane.

He said the police searched the three men and the car.

“Inside the vehicle, R450 in fake banknotes, a vehicle computer box, an electronic ignition set with a key, signal jammer, battery tester, cellphones and bank cards were found.

Modibane said the bank cards found in the car did not correspond to the names of the three suspects.

He said the suspects were arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle and car breaking equipment.

He applauded the joint effort of the Sinoville police and the security company.

“The partnership between SAPS, private security companies, CPF and the community at large strengthens the ability to combat crime,” Modibane said.

The suspects are being detained at Sinoville police station and are expected to appear in court soon.
