Dog lovers paint Pretoria purple

Lyttelton Animal Hospital hosted its fifth annual Purple Party Bus for local dog lovers this past weekend.

Owners and their pets enjoyed travelling around the area on the party bus to various dog-friendly parks in the afternoon.

Veterinarian and hospital owner Dr Frans Pretorius says funds generated go toward helping animals in need.

“The funds that we raise with this effort go toward our emergency fund. It’s a fun activity, it socialises our dogs, brings a lot of exposure to dog-parks and dog-friendly environments and so we raise money for animals that need our help,” Pretorius says.

Pretorius says they receive a lot of animals for which owners cannot afford treatment and can assist the pet free of charge.

Attendees and their pets arrived draped in purple and departed around 13:00. After various stops around the area, the ride came to an end at 16:00 at Doringkloof Park.

Pretorius encouraged dog owners to come to the shelter even for a friendly visit.

“We’re a dog-friendly practice. We love to have dogs come visit us, just for what we call friendly visits. That’s why we do these socialisation events. Anyone is welcome to come visit, get a free treat and be on their way,” Pretorius said.
