The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office said one of her deputies was killed in a crossfire. Units went to the area around Ponderosa Drive and Grand Boulevard where the shooting is believed to have taken place. Officer Peery was killed because police were also involved in the fight.

At 8:07 p.m., news broke on Twitter that the officer had died. He was near where the shooting took place, on the corner of Ponderosa Drive and Grand Boulevard.

Police had urged people in the area to stay away from windows while they worked at the scene. Fox 31 says the trouble started at 5:33 p.m.
He had gone to Widefield to help after the shooting. Deputy Andrew, who was 39, was shot in the crossfire, which some people nearby saw.
