He was born in Shell Knob, Missouri and attended school there until he graduated from Cassville High School in 2006. He then went to the University of Missouri to study business administration and finance. He graduated in 2010 with a degree in this field.


In 2003, the politician founded the marine products company MariCorp and is now its CEO. Initially it was a marina and dock repair shop. As the company grew, it began taking on orders in the region and manufacturing products for the whole country.
