Miami football tough recruitment in 5-star DL Kamarion Franklin top 5

After being named in his top five on Friday, recruiting five-star defensive lineman Kamarion Franklin will be difficult for the Miami football program. Auburn, Florida State, Mississippi and Tennessee are the other programs in the top five named by Franklin. Franklin posted his top five during his Miami official visit.

On3 projects Tennessee as the favorite for a commitment from Franklin at 75.2 percent. Mississippi is second with a 5.9 percent chance for a Franklin commitment and the Miami football program is third at 4.2 percent among the top Franklin top five. Auburn has less than a one percent chance for a Franklin commitment.

On3 does not list Florida State in their projections for Franklin. On3 lists Franklin as the 36th prospect, seventh DL in the 2024 class and top player in Mississippi. The 247 Sports composite rankings have Franklin, 39th, seventh and first. Per On3, Tennessee is the only other official visit Franklin has scheduled.

Franklin is scheduled to visit Tennessee the weekend of June 16. Seven programs have received multiple visits from Franklin. Auburn is the only program in the top five for Franklin that has received just one visit. Florida State and Tennessee are the only programs with classes ranked higher than Miami among the Franklin finalists.

In his first three years of high school, Franklin has 150 tackles, 35.5 tackles for loss, 29 sacks, 82 quarterback hurries and added four interceptions as a junior for Lake Cormorant, Mississippi. The On3 scouting report states that Franklin is an edge rusher projected to move to defensive tackle.

On3 stated Franklin is an instinctive and heady player that utilizes his foot speed and play recognition well. Miami will need to replace several DL following the 2023 season. Former five-star signee Leonard Taylor is projected as a 2024 first-round NFL Draft pick and is likely to leave Miami after the 2023 season.

Miami is heavily recruiting about a half dozen five-star DL. Chicago St. Ignatius five-star DL Justin Scott is currently trending to Miami. Mario Cristobal is backing up the statement he made during his introductory press conference about making the line of scrimmage a priority. That should come to fruition in the 2024 Miami class.
