Defending champions Gujarat Titans will face four-time champions Chennai Super Kings in the final of the IPL 2023 on Sunday (May 28). The summit clash of the 16th edition of the world’s richest franchise cricket league will take place at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. CSK secured a place in the IPL final for the record-extending 10th time by getting the better of GT by 15 runs in the first qualifier of IPL 2023 on Tuesday (May 23) in Chennai, and the Titans reached the summit clash for the second straight season by hammering five-time winners Mumbai Indians by 62 runs in the second qualifier of IPL 2023 on Friday (May 26).
The match between CSK and GT on Sunday will be the third time these two sides will face each other in the IPL this year. In the previous two fixtures, CSK won one and GT won the other.
The winner of the final match between CSK and GT, apart from bagging the golden trophy, will also earn a huge amount of money. As per reports, the winner of the IPL 2023 final will get a whopping Rs 20 crore in prize money, while the runner-up will earn Rs 15 crore. Rohit Sharma’s Mumbai Indians, which finished in the third position after losing in Qualifier 2 on Friday (May 26), earned a pay check of Rs 7 crore, and the Lucknow Super Giants returned home with Rs 6.5 crore.
Apart from the winner’s and runners-up’s prize money, a lot of individual awards will be given to star performers in the IPL this year. The top awards include the likes of Emerging Player of the Tournament (Rs 20 lakh), Orange Cap (Rs 15 lakh), Purple Cap (Rs 15 lakh), Most Valuable Player (Rs 12 lakh), Power Player of the Season (Rs 15 lakh), Super Striker of the Season (Rs 15 lakh), and Game Changer of the Season (Rs 12 lakh).
GT opener Shubman Gill is set to win the Orange Cap this year after having already scored 851 runs in 16 matches, but there’s a neck-to-neck fight for the Purple Cap between Mohammed Shami (28 wickets) and Rashid Khan (27 wickets). Rajasthan Royals opening batter Yashasvi Jaiswal, who created a new record for scoring the most number of runs (625) in an IPL season by an uncapped player, is expected to win the Emerging Player of the Year award.
