CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Jacksonville University women’s golf battled the cold and rain in round two of the Chattanooga Classic on Monday.
The Dolphins are 17th overall through 36 holes at Council Fire Golf Club.
Casey Powell was JU’s top finisher of the day, as she closed her second round strong despite the conditions. After a difficult first nine holes of the day, where she made five pars, she started the back half of the round with a birdie on the Par-4 1st, which jumpstarted her best stretch of the day. She made par on her next two holes before going birdie-birdie on the Par-3 4th and the Par-4 5th holes. She closed the round with three pars on her last four holes of the day to shoot 76.
Susana Olivares
was the steadiest throughout the day. She made six pars in her first nine holes of the day, and carried a consecutive par streak through the turn. It stretched to five straight, before she closed her second round with three in the last five holes. In total, she made 12 pars on the day. She remains one of the better scorers in the field on Par-5s for the week, scoring a cumulative 1-over on such holes.
Ivete Rodrigues made 10 pars on the day and Jenna Fonda had nine of her own. Ashley Huffman was forced to withdraw from the round due to injury.
The final round starts tomorrow with a 9 a.m. shotgun start.
