SMITHVILLE, Mo. – The Winona State University women’s golf team earned a third-place finish at the NSIC Preview, shooting a two-round score of 644.
In a field of six teams, including five NSIC squads, Winona State carded rounds of 320 and 324 to finish third overall and second among all NSIC teams. Missouri Western State won the event with a team score of 623 and Concordia-St. Paul edged out the Warriors by two strokes, notching a score of 642.
Carly Moon led the Warriors, finishing fifth individually. Moon opened the NSIC Preview with an 82 (+10) and followed it up with a 74 (+2) on the second day. Moon’s 74 was the lowest score recorded by any competitor during day two.
Ellie Behring led WSU on the first day, shooting a six-over par 78. A second round score of 83 (+11) gave Behring a top-10 finish and a two-day total of 161.
Rachel Henderson was just one stroke back, tying for 12th with a total score of 162. Henderson carded rounds of 79 (+7) and 83 (+11) over the two days.
Toni Baldwin earned a top-20 finish with rounds of 85 and 84 to shoot a 169 (+25). Marah Rothgarn rounded out the WSU scoring, with a 176 (81, 95).
Kessa Mara golfed as an individual in the event and carded rounds of 88 and 89 for a 177 (+33).
Winona State will return to action on April 17-18 at the Wayne State Invite in Wayne, Neb.
