BOULDER — Colorado head coach Danny Sanchez announced two additions to his staff for the 2023 season on Wednesday. Jorden Smith will take over the Director of Player Development role, while Jacy Drobney returns to the program for her second stint as a Volunteer Assistant.
“Jorden is a great addition to our staff,” Sanchez stated. “We love her background. She has been a head coach of women and men at the collegiate level. Jorden has coached JUCO, Division II and Division I. Her vast experiences will greatly serve her in her role as our Director of Player Development.”
Smith joins the Buffs after spending the 2022 season as an assistant coach at Midwestern State (DII). Smith also has served in an assistant coach role at Sam Houston State (2019-21), Angelina College (2016-17) and Cisco College (2014-15).
Smith helped build both the men’s and women’s programs at Blinn College, serving as the head coach for both the men’s and women’s teams. In her first season, she led the men to six wins and an NJCAA Region XIV semifinal appearance while also guiding the women to four wins.
Smith started her playing career at Cisco College (2009-11), where she was captain and earned All-Conference honors in both seasons. She closed her collegi ate career with two years at Lubbock Christian, earning her bachelor’s degree in exercise science in May 2013.
Drobney, a former Oregon State standout, previously served as a volunteer assistant for the Buffs from 2017-19.
“It is great to have Jacy back on staff,” Sanchez expressed. “She did a fantastic job in her previous stint. Jacy has a great knowledge of the game. She made the transition from Pac-12 player to professional in her playing days. Her experiences playing overseas it a great asset to our student-athletes that have similar aspirations.”
Drobney was a four-year starter for the Beavers. She captained OSU for three seasons and earned All-Pac-12 honors and helped Oregon State to four straight NCAA Tournament appearances. Drobney graduated in 2013 and played two seasons for TSG Hoffenheim in Germany before venturing into coaching.
Drobney, a Longmont, Colo., native, graduated from Silver Creek High School in 2010, lettering in both soccer and basketball.
Colorado has three spring dates left before breaking for the season. The Buffs will be at Kansas State on Saturday. The team will then partake in the second spring edition of the Colorado Cup (April 15) hosted at the University of Denver. The Buffs will close the spring with its only home match, hosting Nebraska on April 22 (11 a.m./Kittredge Field), as part of the Black & Gold Day festivities.
