As expected, Star Tigers forward KJ Williams is moving on after one season at Baton Rouge.
The second-team All-SEC selection officially declared their pick for the 2023 NBA draft on Tuesday. Williams, who joined from Murray State, chose to follow Matt McMahon to LSU for a fifth season rather than try his luck in the professional ranks after a 2021-22 OVC campaign for player of the year.
“First and foremost, I want to thank God for blessing me with this opportunity and the ability to play the game I love,” Williams said in an Instagram post. “I’ve excelled and had a remarkable career, achieving things I could never have imagined. Now it’s time to go to the next level to get even better.
“With that in mind, I declare myself for the 2023 NBA draft.”
Despite LSU’s struggles this season, Williams has been a bright spot and one of the top players in the conference. With 17.7 points per game, he finished only second to Alabama’s Brandon Miller, and he shot 49% from the field (41.1% from three-point range).
He ended his career with more than 2,000 points and 1,000 rebounds.
