IMC Fines Remo Stars N1.2m Over Assault On Referee

Nigerian football club, Remo Stars has been fined N5 million.

 

The fine was imposed on the club following an assault on a match official during their Nigeria Professional Football League matchday 12 encounter against Gombe United on Sunday.

 

The club was also docked three points and three goals by the Interim Management Committee of the league.

 

The club has also been hit with a fine of N1.25m for various breaches of the league’s framework while their general manager, Ekene Adams, who was identified as the attacker on the referee has been banned from all NPFL activities for the rest of the season.

 

The PUNCH reports that the IMC will probe the match-day 12 incident which forced the game to be abandoned at halftime on Sunday and completed on Monday morning.

 

In a summary jurisdiction notice signed by Davidson Owumi, the Head of Operations of the NPFL, the body said the sanctions followed a review of findings of the official match report.

“For breach of Rule B8.21 which is failure to adequately secure match officials before, during and after the match leading to the assault on one of them, the club was fined ₦500,000 and also directed to pay ₦250,000 to the said Official, Ukah Ndubuisi as compensation.

“For breach of Rules C.11, three points and three goals were ordered to be deducted from the total points and goals accrued to the club for the assault on the match official while Mr Ekene Adams identified as the attacker has been banned from all NPFL activities for the rest of the season,” the statement read.

 

Remo Stars is also to ensure diligent prosecution of their general manager, Adams in the law court.

 

The Club was also found to have breached Rule B13.21 for disturbances and disruptions which led to the discontinuation of a league match. The club was fined ₦500,000.

 

In accordance with Rule C.26 of the league, Remo Stars are required to respond in writing within 48 hours of the notice to submit to the rulings of the IMC or elect to appear before a disciplinary panel while the fines are also payable within seven working days.
