SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) – With the forecast predicting rain for the rest of the day, flooding is becoming a problem. Michael Barnes takes a ride in heavy rain to talk about some of the potential flood hazards.
On April 6th, it had been pouring rain since the afternoon of April 5th and began to pour continuously during the night. Water is accumulating in several areas and flooding is becoming a problem throughout Ark-La-Tex, particularly in areas where flash flooding is more common.
Be careful at high tide, it’s better to turn back than risk and drive through as it doesn’t take much to get stuck in your car and swim.
Places to look out for or avoid in Shreveport-Bossier:
- Downtown, Shreveport
- north market
- Crosslake areas
- Grimmett Drive
- airline drive
- dogwood
- Haughton
- Red slide
- sligo
Remember to drive slowly to avoid aquaplaning.
We’ve also heard several reports of falling trees, so keep an eye out for loungers on the streets. A tree has fallen onto Highway US 80 in Greenwood, Louisiana, causing a road closure. Rescuers are working to remove the tree.
Currently, Bossier Parish, Caddo Parish, De Soto Parish, Louisiana, and Shelby County, Texas are on flash flood warnings due to heavy rainfall.
Some of the areas where flash flooding can occur are Shreveport, Bossier City, Greenwood, Benton, Stonewall, Fosters, Eastwood, Keachi, Longstreet, Forbing, Keithville, Cross Lake, Barksdale Air Force Base, Spring Ridge, Ferguson, Kickapoo, Gloster , Bodcau, Red Chute, Center, Logansport, Joaquin, Shelbyville, Neuville, Huxley, Grand Cane, Stanley, James, Reeds Store, Kingston, Jericho and Frierson.
