Chicken ‘sentenced to death’ by Kano Court

A man in Kano State has been given a court order to kill his cockerel following complaints from a neighbour who claimed that the bird’s crowing disrupted their sleep.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the ruling was made by Magistrate Halima Wali on Tuesday, who declared the bird a nuisance.

Malam Yusuf, the owner of the bird, had purchased it to mark Good Friday and requested permission to keep it until then for a family feast.

The judge granted his request, with a warning not to allow the bird to roam freely and cause further disturbance.

She also instructed Yusuf to comply with his promise to slaughter the bird on Friday, or face the consequences.
