We can all see Angel Reese.
As LSU’s women’s basketball team celebrated its national championship with a parade in Baton Rouge on Wednesday, Reese reenacted her now-infamous gesture from the title game and hit the parade crowd with John Cena’s “You can’t see me.”
Controversy swirled after Sunday’s national championship game when Reese tracked down Iowa star Caitlin Clark and did the gesture right in front of her as LSU was closing out a 102-85 victory.
“The Bayou Barbie is here, we got a parade inside our city, yeah,” Reese told WAFB, quoting a rap song by NBA YoungBoy that Ja Morant has also referenced.
“All these people come out to support women’s basketball. I love it, I can’t wait to get another one. The crown, that stayed home — we gonna wait for next season. You can’t see me!”
In her interview with ESPN after beating Iowa, Reese explained that she felt Clark “disrespected” her teammate Alexa Morris, plus previous opponents, and her gesture was done out of revenge.
“I was waiting,” Reese said Sunday.
“Caitlin Clark is a hell of a player for sure, but I don’t take disrespect lightly. She disrespected Alexis [Morris] and my girls, South Carolina, they’re my SEC girls too. Y’all not going to disrespect them either.”
For her part, Clark did not take any issue with getting taunted by Reese, considering that she had also trash-talked opponents in the NCAA Tournament.
“We’re all competitive. We all show our emotions in a different way,” Clark told ESPN on Tuesday.
“Angel’s a tremendous, tremendous player. I have nothing but respect for her. I love her game, the way she rebounds the ball, scores the ball is absolutely incredible. I’m a big fan of her. Even the whole LSU team, the way they played. I don’t think there should be any criticism for what she did.
“I honestly didn’t see it when the game was going on and like I said I haven’t been on social media at all.”
Reese has also been thrust into the national spotlight for taking issues with First Lady Jill Biden initially saying that both LSU and Iowa should both get to visit the White House — something usually reserved for the champions.
