Why Grey’s Anatomy’s Jake Borelli is excited about Levi’s potential new love interest: ‘We’ll see where it goes’

Spoiler Alert! This story contains minor spoilers for Grey’s anatomy‘s episode “Sisters Make It For Themselves” from season 19.

Grey’s anatomy still juggles many characters in its 19th season lose Meredith Gray. In between the viewer drama and the five new surgical internssome characters weren’t portrayed as prominently as some fans might prefer, and yes, I’m talking about that Levi Smith. However, that could potentially change now that a potential new love interest has been introduced in the traveling nurse Carlo GarciaAnd Jake Borelli opened up about why he’s excited to see where this takes his character.

Levi and Carlos (Calvin Seabrooks) met at the interns’ house party in the previous episode “Love Costs Nothing” and the senior doctor was hilarious when he later nearly bumped into the “hot nurse” at the hospital while wearing a bike helmet. As Sisters Are Doin’ It for Themselves progressed, Levi struggled to regain his confidence until he finally worked up the courage to ask Carlos out. Jake Borelli narrates The wrap that he hoped the show would explore Levi’s personal life more, saying:

I’ve been pitching for quite a long time, mostly because Levi and Nico broke up over a year ago to let Levi experience more sides of the queer community and really meet more queer people and see what he actually wants and what he really deserves and actually needs. We’re getting the ball rolling here with Carlos and we’ll see where it goes.

Niko Kim was not my favorite Grey’s anatomy dear interest, and after Levi came out in Season 15, the character really grew in a way that was never felt reciprocated by his friend. Since Carlos is a traveling nurse, I don’t think he’ll be around long, but like Jake Borelli said, it’s a good start for Levi to see what else is out there.

As a primary residence, the Surgeon, formerly known as “Glasses” seems to be staying dangerously close to burning out, and while I’d totally watch a Levi spin-off and Taryn Helm (Jaicy Elliott) running the bar at Joe’s after they gave up their surgical careers, I don’t really want to see him have another breakdown after working so hard to earn his spot at Gray Sloan Memorial. He just needs to have some fun on the side! Jake Borelli is definitely having fun, and he spoke about what it was like working with Calvin Seabrooks:

It was so much fun acting in those scenes with Calvin playing Carlos and just having another queer actor on set was really, really awesome.

Levi started the last episode not “cool” enough to approach Carlos, but after successfully performing a major surgery Catherine Fox (Debbie Allen), he realized what a catch he is and immediately asked Carlos out.

I look forward to seeing more of Levi in the final few episodes, and I look forward to finding out where and when his new experiences take him Grey’s anatomy returns on ABC on Thursday, March 23 at 9 p.m. ET. In the meantime, check out ours TV program 2023 to see what premieres are coming up.
