Video: The New Orleans Saints rate 16 prospects at LSU Pro Day

BATON ROUGE, La. – Sixteen former Tigers demonstrated their skills in front of NFL scouts today as LSU football held its annual Pro Day event at the Charles McClendon Practice Facility.

A variety of Tigers hoped their work would get them onto the draft boards. For the Saints, a team that designed better than most, these workouts are numerous and crucial.

The New Orleans Saints’ coaches on Pro Day included offensive line coach Doug Marrone, defensive coordinator Joe Woods, secondary coach Marcus Robertson and linebackers coach Michael Hodges.

“We were out all week last week. I met six schools in five days. I was in Tulane last week. We’re doing everything we can to make sure we’re doing the right thing in April,” said Michael Hodges, coach of the New Orleans Saints linebackers.

Wide receiver Kayshon Boutte didn’t run the 40-yard dash but did some individual work. The star of the day was cornerback Jerrick Bernard-Converse, who ran a 4.4 flat in the 40’s.

The Saints put a lot of emphasis on character. So if a player has a red flag, there’s a very good chance they’re not on the list.

“This is incredibly important. We won’t be calling up a player until this is resolved. Before designing them as players, let’s talk about their composition. It’s something I learned coming here and it was extremely important, and it can make or break your design course,” Hodges replied.

Hodges said these workouts are critical. He recalls that Kaden Ellis excelled in his training. And if there was one thing for sure, it was Pete Werner.

“He exceeds some expectations, but the expectations for this player were extremely high,” says Hodges.

Among the Tigers working Wednesday were McDonogh 35’s Joe Foucha and McMain’s Colby Richardson. Among the celebrity viewers was Patriots head coach Bill Belichick.
