The LSU women’s tennis team will travel west to the state of Texas at 5:00 p.m. today to play Texas A&M. CT. LSU and Texas A&M will play their 14th game in series history Friday, with the Aggies holding a 10-3 record against the Tigers.
When the teams met in Baton Rouge last season, Texas A&M won 7-0. The Aggies come into the game with just one blemish this season, a 4-2 loss to then-No. 2 North Carolina at the ITA Indoor Championships in February.
Of her 15 wins this season, five have come against top 25 opponents. Texas A&M has six players in ITA singles, led by No. 5 Mary Stoiana. Stoina is 24-4 a year in singles from the fall and has eight goals against nationally ranked opponents.
Stoiana will be joined by #49 Carson Branstine, #80 Daria Smetannikov, #83 Gianna Pielet, #90 Jayci Goldsmith and #106 Mia Kupres. In doubles this year, the Aggies have an overall record of 67-13 in all six fields. Doubles have also been a selling point for Texas A&M this season.
The Aggies have earned double points in 14 of 16 games and have a 29-7 three-field record. They will be No. 4 in doubles from pair No. Carson Branstine and Mary Stoiana, who have a perfect 9-0 in doubles this season. The Tigers won their Friday and Sunday SEC home games last weekend, first beating Missouri 5-2 on Friday night and then capping the weekend with another 5-2 win, this time over the Arkansas Razorbacks.
In the most recent ITA individual ranking, the trio of ranks from LSU remained present. In singles, Kylie Collins leads the Tigers at No. 38. Anastasiya Komar has a perfect 10-0 doubles record and has scored a single point for the Tigers in all but one game this season.
The Belarusian native won seven of those 10 games in straight sets and had three wins over ranked opponents in the spring.
