Speculations as to who will replace Carlo’s rehearsal as a boys basketball coach in Scotlandville it will probably take a little longer.
Meanwhile, the Hornets have news about Sgirls’ basketball practice. Former Ville Platte High Standout Breonna O’Conner took over the Scotlandville girls’ basketball program.
“I already teach here in Scotlandville and I’ve already met the players,” said O’Conner. “I had the opportunity to see them (Scotlandville players) this year. We have three starters coming back and I can’t wait to get started.”
O’Conner, 27, previously coached JS Clark Leadership at Opelousas. She has more than a passing acquaintance with basketball at Baton Rouge.
O’Conner said she met Sample, who is also the Hornets’ athletic director, at a clinic. Nine years ago, she was part of a Ville Platte team that finished runners-up in Class 3A at University High. The Bulldogs lost 63-56 in a title game played at Lake Charles.
From there, O’Conner played college basketball at Northwestern State and Georgia-based Augusta University.
O’Conner is taking on a Scotlandville program that will bring back three starters from a 2022-23 team selected earlier this month for finishing runners-up in Division I to John Curtis.
“This is going to be a new system… something completely different for them,” O’Conner said. “Discipline is one thing I want to emphasize.
“Based on what I’ve seen, I think the sky can be the limit if we work hard and play with discipline.”
BRHS Hall of Fame
Three athletes, four coaches and two teams who have won LHSAA championships will be inducted into the Baton Rouge High Athletic Hall of Fame on May 13 at the school. The celebrations begin at noon. There is no entrance fee.
Loren Carlino (1992), Katie Thomas Robillard (1995) and Diana Calcote Albarado the athletes (1998) are included.
The late Murrell “boot” garland (1965-70), who coached soccer and track and field, is inducted along with the swimming coach Almenia Marie Freeman Williams Warren (1970-93), girls track and field coach Carnel Washington (1993-2005) and gymnastics coach Kevin Nie (1979-2019).
The 1967-68 boys basketball team, which won the LHSAA Class 3A title, and the 2003-04 girls track/cross-country team, which won cross-country, indoor and outdoor titles, are also honored.
There will be a meet and greet prior to the induction ceremony at 1:30 p.m.

Carter, who finished his prep career at Virginia-based Oak Hill Academy, played for Mississippi State in 2021-22 before joining KSU this season. He hit double digits in both NCAA tournament games played by the Wildcats last week.

• Walkers Kearia Gross signed on to play basketball at Baton Rouge Community College for former LSU assistant and Belaire High head coach Paula Lee.
