Pretoria security company shares safety tips for Easter holidays

With Easter approaching, security company ADT has offered Pretoria residents tips on how to keep children safe during holidays.

Spokesperson Charnel Hattingh advised parents to do the following to keep their children safe:

– provide a controlled environment for your children while you are at work

– teach teenagers how to operate your alarm system and a panic button to familiarise them with the process in case of an emergency

– encourage your children to keep doors locked, and easily accessible windows closed when home alone

– train your kids not to allow anyone onto the property without your permission

– ensure the swimming pool is sealed off when not in use or an adult is present to keep a close eye on swimming children

– ensure your children have easy access to important emergency contact numbers

– teach children to memorise their details, including their full name, home address and contact details for at least one parent

– teach your children about the potential dangers of sharing personal information and interacting with strangers online

– monitor your children’s online activity including social media

– talk to your children about security

– teach them to identify potential danger

– encourage them to speak up if they feel uncomfortable or scared
