Several lanes of the southbound 5 Freeway in Glendale were shut down for several hours Saturday evening after debris fell from an overpass onto the roadway.
Pieces of concrete fell from the overpass onto the highway near Western Avenue, said Sgt. Victor Jackson, a spokesman for the Glendale Police Department.
Eric Menjivar, a spokesman for CalTrans, said the source of the debris was a pothole on the overpass. Crews were working to repair the pothole Saturday night.
The California Highway Patrol issued a Sigalert and blocked all southbound lanes around 6 p.m., diverting traffic to Western Avenue, said CHP Officer Elizabeth Kravig.
Around 8 p.m., the HOV and No. 1 lanes were reopened, while the 2, 3 and 4 lanes remained blocked, Kravig said. The Western Avenue onramp was still closed, she added.
No cars were struck by the debris, and no one was injured, Kravig said.
