Police to investigate ‘attack’ on El-Rufai’s convoy by Shiites in Kaduna

The police in Kaduna said it has ordered a full-scale investigation into what it claims was an attack on Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s convoy by members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN).

The order is contained in a statement by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Muhammad Jalige, on Friday in Kaduna.

Mr Jalige said security operatives attached to the governor’s convoy have cleared the Bakin Ruwa axis of Rigasa, Nnamdi Azikiwe expressway in Igabi Local Government Area.

According to him, “armed hoodlums,” suspected to be members of the IMN, otherwise known as Shiites, attacked citizens in the state and prevented motorists from plying the route.

He said members of IMN in large numbers were intercepted harassing citizens on March 16, at about 3:35 p.m., when the governor’s convoy arrived at the scene.

He explained that on sighting the convoy, the IMN members began firing weapons and threw stones which hit several private vehicles along with a few in the convoy.

“The security operatives professionally contained the miscreants without the use of force.

“Some of the hoodlums were arrested and investigation is in progress,” Mr Jalige said.
