One arrested in Centurion street shooting

A man is under arrest in hospital following a shooting that caused damage to a Centurion home at the weekend.

According to police spokesperson Divine Nkuna, a case of attempted murder was opened by the Wierdabrug police in connection with the shooting in Wierda Park on Saturday evening.

Homeowner Quintin Sleeking told Rekord that on Tuesday that he and his wife, Chanel, heard gunshots around 21:30.

“A suspect is under arrest, and he’s now in hospital under police supervision. The suspect sustained a gunshot wound during the shooting,” Nkuna said.

Nkuna did not elaborate on what the shooting was about or how many parties were involved.

On Tuesday, Sleeking said he and his wife were watching television when they heard gunshots outside.

He said what initially sounded like a few gunshots soon turned into what sounded like a “warzone”.

Sleeking said he and his family got on the ground and spent around 15 minutes there before the shooting stopped.

He also told Rekord that Saturday’s shooting was not the first in the neighbourhood.

Sleeking said the past incident was probably the fourth or fifth time he could remember.

Nkuna said the shooting appeared to be an isolated incident.
