A 63-year-old woman was killed and her son injured during an attempted house robbery on their plot in Haakdoornboom, north of Pretoria, on March 20.

The Pretoria North police are investigating a case of murder and attempted murder.

The woman died after being shot twice while her 43-year-old son was reportedly admitted to a hospital with gunshot wounds to the leg.

Acting Tshwane communication coordinator Johan van Dyk said police received the complaint and rushed to the scene.

“Paramedics were on the scene to treat and transport the victim to Dr George Mkhari hospital.

Police noted that there were blood stains both outside and inside the house while the kitchen window was shattered and the wooden door was broken.

“The deceased was lying in the passage covered in blood.”

Van Dyk added that according to the report, the victims were asleep in the house when they heard noises outside.

“The man went to the kitchen and switched on the lights to inspect, which was when the suspects started shooting from outside through the kitchen window; they proceeded to break the kitchen door to gain entry.

“Suspects shot at both.

“The injured man locked himself in the bedroom, and called community members for help.”

Several cartridges were found on the scene, however, nothing seemed to be taken.
