BATON ROUGE – The sixth-ranked LSU gymnastics team secured the number two spot for the 2023 SEC Championships after a historic regular-season finals win over West Virginia announced by the league.
LSU will look for the program’s fifth SEC championship on Saturday, March 18, when the roster competes alongside top seed Florida, third seed Kentucky and fourth seed Alabama in the evening session.
Session II begins at 7 p.m. CT at Gas South Arena in Duluth, Georgia. The conference championships will be televised on SEC Network with Bart Conner, Kathy Johnson Clarke and Samantha Peszek. Streaming and live statistics of the meeting will also be available.
The Tigers begin hitting on bars and rotate to beam and floor before finishing on pounce. The team had top-10 finishes in all four events as they finished third on vault, fourth on floor, eighth on beam, and ninth on beam.
LSU owns an NQS of 197,780, which is the average of a team’s six best finishes, three of which must be away and the highest finish is dropped. The Tigers’ six points are 198,100, 198,025, and 197,700 from home meets and 197,975, 197,700, and 197,500 from the PMAC.
The Tigers won their first of three straight SEC titles in 2017 and their first championship in 1981.
A total of 25 LSU gymnasts have collectively won 47 SEC titles since 1981. The program has also recorded 98 All-SEC honors among 44 gymnasts.
