After an exciting opening round of the NCAA women’s basketball tournament, Sunday’s round of 32 begins with some intriguing encounters.

No. 8 South Florida Bulls vs. No. 1 South Carolina Gamecocks

The Gamecocks’ winning streak is up to 39 games after a dominant 72-40 win over Norfolk State, though Zia Cooke and Laeticia Amihere are the only players to have scored over 10 points. South Carolina is looking to get into the Sweet 16 for the ninth year in a row. South Florida maintained a 67-65 win over Marquette in the first round and will be looking to handle the excitement of the decade by progressing beyond the round of 32 for the first time ever.
No. 11 Mississippi State Bulldogs vs. No. 3 Notre Dame Fighting Irish

Notre Dame looked good in the first round of the tournament, beating Southern Utah 82-56. While the Fighting Irish would be happy to be back in the Sweet 16 for a second straight season, they have their eyes on a deeper tournament run. However, the state of Mississippi has another surprise in store. The Bulldogs held the six-seeded Creighton Bluejays at bay, walking away with a 15-point win and sending the team into the second round for the first time in four years.
#7 Arizona Wildcats vs. #2 Maryland Terrapins

The Terps are looking increasingly like a team poised for a deep tournament run, especially after a dominant showing against Holy Cross in the opening round that saw the Crusaders beaten by 32 points. They are aiming to get into the Sweet 16 for the third year in a row. The Wildcats never let West Virginia get close on Friday, landing on the right end of a 75-62 final score. Arizona has made it to the regional semifinals only twice in the history of the program.

No. 10 Princeton Tigers vs. No. 2 Utah Utes

Utah had one of the biggest offensive performances of the opening round as they finished 103 points clear of Gardner-Webb and won by well over 50 points. They are well positioned to break into the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2006. However, they can’t sleep on the Tigers, who bounced back late in their first round matchup against seven-man North Carolina State and made it to the second round for the third time in program history.
#6 Michigan Wolverines vs. #3 LSU Tigers

The Wolverines had a great game against UNLV in the opening round of the tournament, using a strong first quarter to catapult them to a 71-59 win. Emily Kiser and Maddie Nolan led the charge with 18 points each. They may have a tough time, but they still have a chance to make the Sweet 16 for the third year in a row. LSU wants to use their home field advantage to make their first regional semifinal appearance since 2014 and start their tournament with a 23-point win over Hawaii.

No. 10 Georgia Bulldogs vs. No. 2 Iowa Hawkeyes

It looked pretty easy for Big Ten champion Hawkeyes. When they faced Southeastern Louisiana on Friday, they started hot and stayed hot, walking away in a 95-43 win. A win on Sunday would send Iowa back into the Sweet 16 for the first time in two years. While Georgia seemed to be the loser to Florida State, Diamond Battles put in an outstanding performance and scored 21 points, giving the Bulldogs a win in their first regional semifinals in 10 years.
No. 9 South Dakota State Jackrabbits vs. No. 1 Virginia Tech Hokies

Virginia Tech had no trouble exiting the first round of the tournament, holding Chattanooga at 33 points on Friday and returning to the Round of 32 for the second time in three years. The Hokies have only made the Sweet 16 once, and that was in 1999. It had been four years since South Dakota State had won an NCAA tournament game, but that all changed after they repelled the eight-man USC Trojans. The Jackrabbits have also been in the regional semifinals before, having made it this far four years ago.
#8 Ole Miss Rebels vs. #1 Stanford Cardinal

Both Stanford and Ole Miss dominated their opening-round encounters, keeping their respective opponents under 50 points. Stanford almost reached the century mark against Sacred Heart, while Ole Miss clinched a 23-point win over Gonzaga. While the Cardinal has his sights set on the national title, the Rebels are hoping to cause an upset and get promoted to the Sweet 16 for the first time in 16 years.
