GBRIA announces the winners of the 2023 Contractor Safety Excellence Awards banquet

BATON ROUGE— The Greater Baton Rouge Industry Alliance, Inc. (GBRIA) announced the winners of its competition 27th Annual Safety Excellence Awards. The awards were presented at a banquet held on Friday, March 17th at the L’Auberge Resort in Baton Rouge, LA. Approximately 700 guests attended the event, which was entertained by The Cajun Comedian, Kent Gonsoulin.
The awards program was established in 1996 under the leadership of Hal G. Ginn, then Plant Manager of DSM Copolymer, to recognize outstanding safety performance by contractors working in industrial facilities. Ginn, as Chairman of GBRIA, played an instrumental role in raising safety standards and expectations in industry in the Baton Rouge region, which has spread across the US with other petrochemical and heavy industry manufacturers.
GBRIA members who nominated their top performing contractors include Air Liquide, Air Products, Americas Styrenics, BASF, CF Industries, Cornerstone Chemical, Delek – Krotz Springs Refinery, Dow, Eastman, Ethos Energy, ExxonMobil Baton Rouge Complex, ExxonMobil BRPO, ExxonMobil BRPP, Formosa Plastics, Grace, Honeywell (Baton Rouge), Hexion, Innophos, Koch Methanol Terminal, Linde, Lion Elastomers, Koura, Marathon Petroleum, Methanex, Nalco Water, NOVA Chemicals, Nucor Steel, Nutrien, Olin (St , Gabriel and Plaquemine) , OxyChem (Convent and Geismar), Placid Refining, Rubicon, Shell Catalysts and Technologies, Shell Chemical (Geismar), Shell (Convent), Shintech Louisiana, SNF Flopam, Solvay USA, Syngenta Crop Protection, Veolia and Westlake (Geismar and Plaquemine).
The winning contractors demonstrated an excellent level of safety each year, which includes thousands and millions of hours worked without injury, a commitment by management to educating workers, and a zero-incident culture promoted. GBRIA members nominated a total of 63 companies, representing more than 250 million hours worked, 120,000 employees and a combined total reportable incident rate of 0.19, the lowest number ever achieved by GBRIA nominees.
The GBRIA Contractor Safety Excellence Awards 2023 were presented in eight service categories with the companies in each category being further subdivided into either Division I, Division II, or Division III, depending on company size.
