A man driving a BMW reversed and hit a police officer who tried to pull him over, sparking an officer to fire a gun at the car which fled Friday night in the Museum Campus neighborhood.
At least one suspect has been arrested and no one was shot.
About 8:15 p.m., officers saw a black, 2016 BMW 750 that matched the description of a vehicle wanted in connection of an aggravated battery to a police officer earlier this month, police said.
Police attempted to curb the vehicle in the 1100 block of DuSable Lake Shore Drive, but as a 39-year-old male officer walked over, the BMW’s driver, a 23-year-old South Side man, reversed hitting the officer, police said.
An officer discharged a weapon, but no one was hit.
It was not clear if the injured officer was the one who fired his gun.
The driver “continued to maneuver his way through traffic, fleeing the scene,” and was last seen southbound on DuSable Lake Shore Drive, according to a Chicago police report.
Finally, the BMW stopped in the 7200 block of South Vincennes Avenue where occupants, including a 23-year-old South Side man who was a passenger, fled on foot and at least one was taken into custody, police said.
The 39-year-old officer was taken to an area hospital with a broken leg, and was listed in good condition.
The Civilian Office of Police Accountability was investigating.
