There is still time to start a conversation about colorectal cancer even though the month of March marks Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month.

Even though the month is nearing its end, it is never too late to start a conversation about the disease.

The statistics may seem staggering, but approximately one in 24 Americans will be diagnosed with colorectal cancer in their lifetime.

This makes colorectal cancer the second most deadly Colorectal Cancer after lung cancer in terms of death rates.

There is an increasing number of medical experts who are urging people who are around 45 years old to have routine precancerous cell screenings carried out when they reach this age in order to detect early-stage cancer and avoid the possibility of developing cancer in the future.

There should be a screening conducted at least every ten years, if not more frequently.

Despite the fact that screening frequency will differ from person to person, it is important to keep in mind that certain conditions may affect the frequency of screening, such as Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, or if there is a history of colon cancer in the family.

There is nothing very complicated about testing. As a provider of Fecal immunochemical tests (FIT), Kinney Drugs is able to provide this service. Essentially, the test detects blood which is found in the stool and can not be seen by the naked eye, but it is detectable by the test.

In addition to not requiring a prescription and being affordable, the test kits do not require a prescription. I loved the simplicity of the instructions, and I also liked the fact that I could complete the tests at home.

Experts advise against using FITs in place of a colonoscopy in cases where other procedures can be successfully performed.
