BATON ROUGE — LSU’s No. 6 Gymnastics team defeated West Virginia (11-8, 1-2 BIG 12) by a score of 198,025-196,450 on Friday night to wrap up the PMAC regular season.
The night was highlighted by Junior Haleigh Bryant, who recorded three 10s and made program history. She became only the fourth gymnast in school history to have three perfect scores in one competition, and the fifth gymnast in the nation to do so.
Bryant now owns 10 career perfect scores to rank her for the most in program history.
At the start of the meeting, junior Elena Arenas led the Tigers with a vault score of 9.875. Senior Alyona Shchennikova followed with 9,850. Junior Chase Brock earned 9,750 and sophomore Aleah Finnegan earned 9,650 and 9,800, respectively. Newcomer Bryce Wilson continued her appearance on the vault lineup with 9,775. Haleigh Bryant anchored the roster with her eighth perfect 10.00 on vault this season. The Tigers took a 49,300 lead after the first rotation.
On parallel bars, Alexis Jeffrey scored a 9.775 in the leadoff. Sophomore Tori Tatum hit her season-high 9,900 in third place. Finnegan hit her season high with a 9.925. Fresham Ashley Cowan hit a career-high 9,900 on her third attempt on parallel bars this season. Bryant earned her second 10 on the night to set the first perfect bar score for the Tigers since 2019.
LSU finished the second rotation with 49,500 and the Tigers led 98,800-98,100 at halftime.
On beam, Arenas scored a 9.850 in first place and Shchennikova followed with a 9.875. Jeffrey saved 9,900. In fourth place, Sierra Ballard scored a 9.825. Bryant added 9.875 for the Tigers. Finnegan finished the beam rotation with a strong 9.975. LSU totaled 49,475 after the beam. At the start of the last rotation, LSU led with 148,275 while West Virginia had a total of 147,450.
At the last home game of the season, Ballard led the Tigers with 9.925 on the ground. Floor practice continued with Shchennikova hitting a career-high 9.975. Arenas hit a career-high 9.925 and Finnegan added another 9.925. To conclude the meeting, Bryant scored her third 10.00 of the night, setting a new LSU record for most career 10s of all time.
LSU finished the regular season victorious over West Virginia with a final score of 198.02-196.450.
