Boschkop residents were up in arms on Monday as they raised their dissatisfaction over service delivery problems.
The community blocked the R104 early Monday morning with rocks, tree branches and burning tyres.
Commuters were frustrated as they could not get to their destinations due to the stand-off.
Resident Sipho Mtshweni said they are struggling for services but water shortages stripped them of their dignity.
“We used to get water seven days a week, now it is only three days a week: Monday, Wednesday and Saturday and the water is not enough for the whole community.
The municipality says it doesn’t have money but why is its staff still getting paid at the end of the month?
Our dignity is being taken away as we can’t use the toilets due to a lack of water and that poses hygienic challenges.
We want the City to at least give us communal taps even if it is one or two per street that will work,” said a frustrated Mtshweni.
Mtshweni further said the community was also “tired of the illegal electricity connections as this was dangerous and kills innocent people.”
Tshwane metro spokesperson Lindela Mashego said provision of rudimentary services to informal settlements will resume.
“Rudimentary services in informal settlement began on March 6.
We have just faced some delays and challenges but we promise that they are all going to be fixed.”
He said the city apologised for any inconvenience caused by the temporary interruption to critical service delivery.
