STARKVILLE, Miss. – On day one of the Bulldog Invitational in Starkville, Jordy Bahl was perfect as a sophomore and No. 1 Oklahoma picked up back-to-back wins over Southeast Louisiana and Mississippi State.
OU opened the day with a 13-0 run rule win over Southeastern Louisiana in five innings before a 7-0 win over RV/RV Mississippi State on their home field.
In game one, Oklahoma (18-1) made quick work of the Lions (19-5), taking a 4-0 lead in the first and putting on four more runs in the second before finishing fifth in the third. Behind Bahl’s outstanding performance in the circle, offense gave her plenty of help, amassing 17 hits in the competition, including eight doubles and two homers.
In the first case, a two-run blaster from super senior Haley Lee opened the scoring before a dropped fly midway allowed junior Alyssa Brito to run home. An RBI double by freshman Jocelyn Erickson gave the Sooners a four-to-one lead.
In the second, sophomore Sophia Nugent started her fourth home run of the season with a three-run shot after a walk on Jayda Coleman and a single by Lee. Two batters later, senior Kinzie Hansen laced an RBI double to right field to over-tear Brito.
In the third inning, OU had five runs with six hits, including two pinch hits. After a single from freshman Avery Hodge that extended her team-best streak to four games, senior Alynah Torres brought her home with an RBI double at right center. Junior Tiare Jennings ripped a run-scoring double to left field two batters later, followed by a Lee double that made a pair. Brito ended the game’s goal with another Sooner right field double to level it at 13-0 after three OU.
Bahl (6-1) knocked out all 15 batters she faced in just 53 pitches, hitting eight. It was the student’s second perfect individual game and third overall, combined with one a season ago. It was the 20th perfect game in program history and OU’s third no-hitter of the 2023 season.
Against the Lions, 11 Sooners recorded a hit, with seven conceding at least one run. Lee passed OU with a 3-on-3, four RBI performance.
In the nightcap against the Bulldogs (17-6), the Sooners eliminated another opponent, their third straight and 14th of the season, beating MSU 7-0.
In the circle, Nicole May was once again without a light, throwing a full game shutout and hitting a six.
Oklahoma overshot one in the first and put on two runs over the second, third, and seventh innings.
Lee opened things up with an RBI single in first through right field after leadoff batter Coleman singled center. In the second, a run-scoring double by redshirt freshman Quincee Lilio scored sophomore Cydney Sanders before an MSU error that allowed Lilio to run home.
In the third inning, OU hit another crooked number, hitting two runs with three hits and another bulldog miscue. Brito doubled Lee before an MSU throwing error from left field that allowed Brito to cruise home.
Brito continued her winning streak with her fourth home run of the season with a two-run shot in the seventh, securing OU’s 11th straight win.
Lee and Brito each went 2-on-4 and led OU with Brito adding three runs.
May entered the season with her third singles shutout of the year at 6-0 and maintained her perfect ERA at 0.00. She fanned out six, giving up just two hits and three walks.
