His Majesty King Charles III’s coronation is set to take place on Saturday 6 May 2023, 70 years after his late mother attended him as a young child. And as Buckingham Palace recently announced, a special coronation ceremony will be broadcast live from Windsor Castle on Sunday 7 May. The stars who will perform are yet to be confirmed, but a new report claims that the Spice Girls will reunite privately at the historic event for the first time in a decade.
The last time the Spice Girls performed together was at the age of five at the closing ceremony of the 2012 London Olympics.
The Sun’s Insider said: “The Royal Organizers are extremely keen to secure Britain’s biggest girl group, and the Spice Girls are seriously considering returning to the stage as a five piece for such a historic event. Sure, the truth is, The Coronation is as special as the Olympics – a one-off celebration and unique performance. There A general feeling that a reunion could happen for something of this importance. Mel B and Mel C are the ringleaders of the group, and they’re trying to make it happen.”
Mel B has certainly hinted that a Spice Girls reunion is in the works.
King Charles III has a history with the Spice Girls, having met them on various occasions when he was Prince of Wales. The famous Jerry Horner and Mel B broke royal protocol by kissing the king on the cheek and patting his butt while saying it was “too hot” in 1997.
As for the other potential artists at the coronation ceremony, perhaps Sir Paul McCartney will appear given he missed out on the Platinum Jubilee? The king is also a huge fan of Diana Ross, who wrapped up a grand celebration for his late mother last summer.
