James Gunn and Peter Safran will be starting from scratch to build DC Studios’ new DC Universe franchise – at least that’s what Dave Bautista says. Bautista is having a big year in 2023, with starring roles in both M. Night Shyamalan’s (sixth seance) a new movie Ring in the cabinand James Gunn’s latest Marvel movie, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. While doing press for Knock at the Cabin, Dave Bautista talked about how James Gunn is taking a star-from-scratch approach with the DC Universe.
Bautista was giving an interview that revealed he had been in talks with Gunn about Bane’s role in the DCU, only to find out that Gunn is going in a different direction:
“I’ve had conversations with James about that, but I think the direction he’s leaning in, he’s completely rebooting this whole universe, he’s starting from scratch and starting younger and fresher, and I think you need to do that,” Bautista said. from the inside. “I think in order to bring the DC Universe to life, you have to start from scratch, and I think you need to start with younger actors. You need to start planning for the next 15 years, and I don’t think you can do that with me and I understand that.”
That’s been the rumor going around in the DC fandom since last fall Warner Bros. officially announced Discovery as DC Studios. It’s a rumor that was only bolstered by the first revelation that Gunn is writing a movie about Superman dealing with a younger Clark Kent who first came to Metropolis. blue beetle (one of the only successful DC films from the previous era) would also introduce a younger hero/actor, so age was definitely a factor in keeping it going.
Could Dave Bautista join the DCU?
Just because James Gunn didn’t get to see Bautista (54) play Bane opposite a younger Batman, doesn’t mean he can still join the franchise. Jason Momoa, 43, is sure to get a new role in the DCU, which all the bet money says will be the intergalactic bounty hunter, Lobo. In that sense, there are plenty of other DC superhero, villain, or anti-hero roles that Bautista could be perfect for (Kilowog?), and his ties to James Gunn run deep, so he’ll likely pop up somewhere.
For his part, Dave Bautista told ComicBook.com that he’s ready to go all-DC – so much so that he doesn’t want to be “that guy” pestering his friend James Gunn for a DC role. However, Bautista “would love to be part of the DC Universe,” whenever that happens.
Knock at the Cabin will hit theaters on February 3. James Gunn promises DC Universe answers soon.
