Michael Jackson fans have been teasing about the details of a biographical film about him over the past few years. Like the Queen movie, Bohemian Rhapsody, and Elvis Presley’s final hit, Elvis, Michael is long overdue in telling his life story on the silver screen. But one of the major troubling parts of the movie is who gets to play the iconic performer. A new report revealed that he would be someone very close to Michael while he was alive.

Fuqua has since confirmed the news on his Instagram as well.

He posted a photo of what Jafar looks like in full Michael Jackson costume with the caption: “Proud to announce @jaafarjackson as Michael – motion picture event that explores the journey of the man who became the King of Pop. Coming soon.”

Other than the main director and star, Michael’s biography is still shrouded in mystery. However, Deadline reported that she would not “shy” about the controversies in his life. These likely include the various allegations of sexual assault and the court case that Michael met with during the 1990s and 2000s.

There is an upside to the upcoming biopic, however, as the Jackson estate has given its full support to the project.

This means that Michael’s film will include a collection of the star’s signature songs, complementing the picture with an appropriate soundtrack.

Further, John Logan is writing the script, and the picture will be produced by Graham King, who staged Freddie Mercury’s Bohemian Rhapsody.

This highly anticipated biopic will hit theaters more than a decade after the death of the King of Pop.

Michael died on June 25, 2009, after an overdose of propofol. This drug was given by his personal physician, Dr. Conrad Murray, who was later convicted in 2011 of manslaughter.
